Head coach of the Nigeria’s Supersand Eagles, Audu Adamu, has released the final 10 players that includes top stars, Abu Azeez and Isiaka Olawale, who will participate in this year’s Copa Lagos Beach Soccer tournament.
Eighteen players were initially called to camp last week by the experienced trainer, but eight were dropped on Tuesday after the Supersand Eagles were beaten 7-6 by Enyimba.
Adamu said that the players that were left out of the final squad was not as a result of poor performance, but each team must parade maximum of 10 players.
“The eight players I dropped were the ones that played for Enyimba, and they even defeated my team for you to know how good they are.
“Each country must parade 10 players each, and I’m sure that the players that made my final squad would make Nigerian happy this month,”
The final list is led by skipper Olawale, who has lifted the Copa Lagos trophy three times since inception of the tournament.
The Dolphins mildfielder said to supersport.com that he would love to win the Copa Lagos trophy again this month so as to console himself for the 2014 Federation Cup final which Dolphins lost to Enyimba.
“It was really painful losing the Federation Cup to Enyimba, but I want to win the Copa Lagos again so that I will at least touch a trophy this year,” Olawale said to supersport.com
The Supersand Eagles will begin the defence of their Copa Lagos title this Friday with a tough duel against West African neighbours, Ghana.
The competition will be played for three days at the Eko Atlantic Beach in Lagos.
