Daniel was born at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State, Northeast Nigeria on 22 May 1986. While Daniel was a toddler, his family relocated to Lagos State in Southwest Nigeria and then to the Southeast State of Enugu,  where he began his formal education.

DKD is a native of Nenwe in Ani-Nri Local Government Area of Enugu State.  He is the first of four children, one of whom is Chris Daniel Jnr (Kris’D) a musician and performing artist.
